摘要The influence of different amounts of Ag nanoparticles (0, 0.5, 1, 2, 5, and 10 wt%) on electrical and thermal transport properties has been investigated in the Ba-filled skutterudite compounds, Ba0.5Co4Sb12, which was synthesized by ball milling followed by hot pressing in this work. It was found that Ag nanoparticles drastically enhance the electric conductivity as well as the Seebeck coefficient. In addition, Ag nanoparticles reduce the lattice thermal conductivity through scattering a wider range of frequencies phonons, although the total thermal conductivity was not reduced because of the significantly enhanced electrical conductivity. Moreover, it is observed that Ag nanoparticles can uniformly disperse between the grain boundaries and on the surfaces of grains when the amount of Ag is less than 2 wt%. Ag3Sb impurity is produced when a greater concentration of Ag nanoparticles is used. Therefore, the optimal amount of Ag nanoparticles is 2 wt% in Ba0.5Co4Sb12, where the ZT = S-2 sigma T/kappa value reaches 1.4. These observations demonstrate an exciting scientific opportunity to raise the figure-of-merit of filled skutterudites.
