摘要The development of thin film composite (TFC) membrane is restricted by the inherent permeability/selectivity trade-off. Comprehensive attempts have been made to break the restriction. The n-hexane rinse, conducted following the initial interfacial polymerization (IP) process of the active layer, represents an overlooked parameter in conventional membrane preparation methodologies. This study investigated the influences of the nhexane rinse on the formation, morphology and surface chemistry of the active layer. The transport property and osmosis performance of the TFC membrane were evaluated. The water flux of the membrane rinsed by n-hexane increased by 25.5 % without scarifying the selectivity in the forward osmosis (FO) mode. The simple method effectively improved the perm-selectivity of the TFC membrane.
